Bonus words and the Word Bank
Extra words aren't wasted. Here's where they go and which ones to try first.
Bonus words are real words you can spell with the tiles that aren't part of the crossword board. The game doesn't throw them away: they go into your Word Bank, which you claim once it fills up.
Bonus words by the numbers
- 4,903 of the 4,914 English levels (100%) have at least one bonus word.
- In total there are 82,528 bonus words, about 16.8 per level.
- Like answers, bonus words are at least three letters long. A word is never both an answer and a bonus word in the same level.
Why bonus words help
Finding a bonus word tells you something: those letters sit next to each other on the honeycomb. If you spell FARO while hunting for an answer, you now know F, A, R and O form a path, and FAR or FAVOR may be close by.
